Flipgrid
Flipgrid is a free video discussion app that gives an instructor the ability to post a topic or prompt and allows students to respond with short creative video posts. Now there are plenty of tools that allow you to put up a topic and have your students post videos, what makes Flipgrid so special? Flipgrid is special because it views video discussion as a creative social activity, just like a social media platform. This means it gives your students the ability to record, add backgrounds, a whiteboard, write text on the video, photos, and gifs all while recording and from their phone.
This seems like a small thing, but it allows your students to better express themselves and take ownership of their responses to your topic. Then Flipgrid allows you as the instructor to provide direct video feedback to your students.
What this does then is create a good environment for video conversation and if done right good discussion when you are not even in the same room.
Flipgrid being a social video discussion tool, means that its main purpose of course is discussion and interaction, but as many know this can take many different forms in education. A few examples would be:
Flipgrid allows you to easily do each of those and more. To get a better idea of what this tool can look like check out this Flipgrid Example.
Flipgrid makes it super easy to get started with their tool. You first need to sign up for Flipgrid with either a Microsoft or Google account.
