This Week's App: Otter

What is Otter?

Otter is a tool that can automatically caption and transcribe meetings, video calls, classes and more. It allows a person to click record and then watch as notes with tags are automatically created in folders that can be easily searched.

What can it be used for?

Otter can be used by students or faculty to caption and take notes for any lecture, class, or meeting whether in person or virtual. It can be a great tool for taking notes in real time or even can be used by students or faculty doing research that involves interviews to create automatic transcriptions.

Otter will record everything, in real time transcribe those conversations, and even break them up by different speakers.

In Otter you can simply hit record and the tool will record everything that is said, in real time transcribe those conversations, and even break them up by different speakers. From there you can comment on the notes taken, add your own notes, and categorize those notes so you can search them.

How do I get started?

Otter is a freemium tool so we first recommend signing up for a free account and testing it out. The free plan will let you record up to 30 mins at a time for free and fully search, comment, and edit those notes. You can also learn more about using Otter in their Getting started guide.
